Have you ever done a money challenge? With your whole family? We decided to try a month-long money challenge for March. We allotted ourselves $930 for the month and outlined the rules in our 52 Week Money Challenge in a Month post. If you missed that post, you can go back and read it here.
How did we do?
We are entering the last week of the money challenge. To be completely honest, I have to let you know that March was not a normal month for our family. It was no where near a normal month. I may write another post, some day, explaining everything, but for the purpose of this post, you need to know it was not a normal month. For two of the last three weeks, we were not at home most of the time. We did not have grocery expenses as we normally would have because friends and family provided our food. However, we did have to make a few short trips to the store for a total of $395.41. We also got take-out meals on three occasions for the kids because of running around between homes and not having the time to cook at home. Amount spent on take out was $82.88.
I thought I was going to struggle with the challenge, but ironically, life changing events took my mind off the challenge and money all together. Perspective is a funny thing.
Money Wrap UP:
Total Monthly Allotment: $930
Total Spent to Date: $623.17
Total Remaining Money: $306.83
We have 5 days left on this challenge. I am confident we will have money left over, but would give any amount of money in the world to reverse the past weeks events. Sadly, that’s not possible. My lesson learned in March 2017 is to live each day to its fullest. Smile, make people smile, and although it’s responsible to watch your dollars and cents, it’s not the most important thing in this life.
I would love to hear about your experience with a money challenge. How did you cut back? What are some of your tips and tricks to make it on a specific amount of money? Please leave your ideas in the comments below.
